Mountwest Community and Technical College is composed of four campuses in Huntington, W.Va., including its main campus and the Center for Culinary Arts and its Inland Waterways Academy. It is one of only 10 public community and technical colleges in West Virginia. It was recently named one of the nation’s Military Friendly schools for 2013. Students can pursue associate degree and certificate programs that will prepare them for professional success after they graduate or for baccalaureate-level study
Students can choose from nearly 60 associate degree programs at Mountwest Community and Technical College. There are also 15 certificate programs awarded in a variety of career fields. Areas of study include allied health and sciences; business, technology, and workforce development; and liberal arts and human services. Through its online learning division, Mountwest offers more than 100 online courses every semester in multiple subjects. The school uses Blackboard as its online learning platform.
Mountwest Community and Technical College has been regionally accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools since 2003.
Mountwest Community and Technical College has an open enrollment policy. Applicants must complete and submit an application to be admitted. They must also have official high school transcripts or GED scores mailed to the school, and may submit ACT or SAT scores and college transcripts if applicable, though applicants do not have to have ACT or SAT scores to be admitted. Upon admittance, students attend a new student orientation or meet with an advisor. All students also have to take a placement exam. Different admissions requirements may apply for transfer students.
