Green Mountain College is known for its emphasis on environmental awareness and sustainability. It is a private institution located in Poultney, Vt., that was established in 1834 in affiliation with the United Methodist Church. All students at Green Mountain complete a 37-credit Environmental Liberal Arts General Education Program. Students at Green Mountain College are also strongly encouraged to gain hands-on experience through internships, study-abroad, and volunteer opportunities as part of their educational experience. The school also offers opportunities in athletics.
Green Mountain College offers a number of traditional academic programs at the undergraduate level. Regardless of their major, all students at the school participate in the Environmental Liberal Arts plan. However, some areas of study focus specifically on environmental disciplines, like Renewable Energy and Ecological Design, Environmental Studies, Natural Resources Management, Sustainable Agriculture and Food Production, and Sustainable Business. A pre-law program is also available. Green Mountain also awards graduate degrees, including a Sustainable MBA program, which can be completed online. Master’s degrees in Environmental Studies and Sustainable Food Systems are also available.
Green Mountain College is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
Green Mountain College offers flexible admission options. Students must submit an application, transcripts, and recommendations. Test scores are optional, though students who choose not to submit their SAT or ACT test scores must complete a collection of essay questions. Generally, a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is required for admissions to all graduate programs at Green Mountain College.
