Utah Valley University, often referred to as UVU, is a public institution located in Orem, Utah. It is one of the largest institutions of higher learning in the state of Utah. The school started as a vocational learning and training center, but has since evolved into a four-year university that awards bachelor’s and graduate degrees. Utah Valley’s emphasis on “engaged learning” is one of the features that makes it unique. Engaged learning is a teaching approach that combines traditional classroom instruction with hands-on, experiential learning. Engaged learning activities can involve campus or community projects.
Utah Valley University offers more than 50 bachelor’s degree programs, more than 80 associate degree and certificate programs, and two graduate degree programs. The schools aviation programs are perhaps its best known offerings. Several programs are also available through distance education at Utah Valley, including associate and bachelor’s degree programs in aviation. Students can also earn degrees in business management and public emergency services online.
Utah Valley University is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, and has been since 1969. The school has other specialized accreditation for specific programs.
The application deadline for incoming freshmen at Utah Valley University is December 1 for the spring semester and August 1 for the fall semester. However, check directly with the school to confirm deadlines. The school is an open-admission institution. In other words, all applicants are admitted to the university provided they meet the enrollment standards, wich involve submitting an application fee, application for admission, students’ copies of their high school or college transcripts, and official reports of their ACT or SAT test scores. These materials allow university official to evaluate each applicant and place him or her in the appropriate classes.
