The Community College of Rhode Island is a public two-year institution located in Warwick, R.I. It was established in 1964 as Rhode Island Junior College and remains the only community college system in the state. Today, the college’s main campus has an enrollment of nearly 18,000 students. Additional campuses are located in Lincoln, Providence, and Newport, R.I. A range of certificate and associate degree programs, as well as online courses, are available to suit the educational needs of a diverse student body.

Programs Offered

Technical training and transfer credit curriculums are available to CCRI students. Areas of study include administrative assisting, legal office assisting, medical insurance billing, accounting, financial services, marketing, and chemical technology. Distance learning opportunities are also offered by the college. These flexible classes are ideal for working adults, military families, and other non-traditional students. Available subjects for online classes include accounting, English, human services, mathematics, psychology, sociology, and radiography.

Accreditation

The Community College of Rhode Island has been accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges since 1969. Programs in physical therapy assisting and music have also earned specialized accreditation.

Admissions

The college has an open admissions policy that allows anyone who applies to register for classes. However, prospective students must still submit their application and all necessary documents in a timely manner. The application form is available online. Students can also send in a paper application, but a $20 fee will apply for this form of submission. Official high school, and any applicable college, transcripts must be sent to the admissions office. Students who completed high school through a GED program need to submit proof of their completion, such as test scores and a copy of their diploma.
