Founded in downtown Portland, Portland State University has been serving students since 1946. The campus consists of 50 acres of land and is associated with many companies and organizations that permit students to put their knowledge into practice. Today, PSU has more than 220 programs for students to choose from, including undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Portland State University has a mission that supports diversity and provides access to education for potential students, regardless of their culture or background. PSU also promotes community engagement and an open, trusting environment for students and faculty. The university is in the top 10 colleges with the most transfer students, according to U.S. News & World Report, as well as in the top 10 in the Report‘s ranking of the colleges with the highest ESL participation rates. Portland State University is known for having a wide variety of majors, minors, and specializations. Students can earn bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, doctoral degrees, and certificates from PSU’s 220 programs. PSU states that their undergraduate program seeks to combine knowledge and skills with real-life, hands-on experiences. Programs are well-rounded, with a focus on reading and writing. Common majors include, but are not limited to, accounting, film, marketing, teaching, computer science, and criminal justice. PSU boasts 70 master’s programs, 18 doctoral programs, and 30 graduate certificate programs, all of which are heavily based in research and practical application. PSU’s academic school year consists of four terms â€” fall, winter, spring, and summer. Students can enroll during any of these terms, though the application deadlines vary based on degree level and student classification. Undergraduate candidates must submit an application and a fee of $50. Candidates must take the SAT or ACT and submit those scores as well, along with official transcripts and proof of any AP, IB, and/or CLEP exam scores. Prospective graduate students must have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher prior to enrollment. These candidates will submit an application and a $50 fee to the admissions office. They will also need to fill out a department application. Candidates are requested to provide official transcripts, letters of recommendation, test scores (GRE, GMAT, etc.), a personal statement or essay, and a resume. PSU reviews the applications holistically.
