The University of Saint Mary was established in 1923 as a two-year institution for women. It developed a liberal arts curriculum with a career focus to prepare students for the workforce, and it soon opened its doors to all students. Its faith-based mission seeks to establish strong values within students and to encourage the development of critical thinking skills. The University of Saint Mary also encourages service and community outreach. Ultimately, the university’s goal is to foster the whole person by employing a well-rounded set of classes and educational tools.
Because the University of Saint Mary is focused on the individual student, class sizes are kept small. This encourages students to interact with one another and their professors in a safe, close-knit environment. Because all course work is completed online, classes are self-paced, and students are afforded the luxury of completing the work at their own pace. The University of Saint Mary has three programs. There’s the master’s in teaching, which supplements the education of current teachers by giving them a stronger framework upon which they can base their curricula. The university also offers an RN to bachelor’s in nursing for nurses who want to get the education necessary for promotions into administrative positions. Finally, the master’s of business administration prepares students for advancement within the fast pace of the global business world.
The University of Saint Mary is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and School, and has maintained that accreditation since 1928. The master’s of teaching program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, and the RN to bachelor’s degree program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
Specific requirements vary based on the program, though some requirements are the same across all degrees. These are: official transcripts, letters of recommendation, a personal statement or essay, documents of teaching or nursing licensure (if relevant), and a completed application. The master’s of teaching program requires prospective students to have upheld at least a 2.75 GPA during their bachelor’s education. Candidates must also describe their philosophy of teaching. Prospective RN to BSN students must fill out a supplemental application, submit references, and have maintained at least a college GPA of at least 2.5. The MBA program requires an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75 and an updated resume. All requirements are outlined on the University of Saint Mary’s website
