Originally founded as State Normal School, District 2 in 1871, this university underwent a number of name changes before becoming known as the University of Central Missouri in 2006. The school is located in Warrensburg, Mo. and was initially a preparatory school for the state’s teachers. Today, the University of Central Missouri serves more than 11,000 students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Their main academic focus is professional technology, which blends a comprehensive liberal arts curriculum with practical learning opportunities to prepare students for the workforce.
The University of Central Missouri Online offers a number of programs for both undergraduate and graduate students. Online bachelor’s degree programs include crisis and disaster management, nursing, and occupational education. Undergraduate minors are also offered in child and family development, psychology, and religious studies. Graduate students can pursue online degrees in educational technology, aviation safety, criminal justice, elementary education, kinesiology sport management, nursing, library science and information services, and industrial management. The University of Central Missouri is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the Higher Learning Commission. In addition, the university has earned specialized accreditation from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation, the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, the National Association of Schools of Music, and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. The school’s accreditation status allows eligible students to apply for federal financial aid.
Students interested in applying to the University of Central Missouri should be prepared to submit their high school transcripts, GPA, and SAT or ACT scores. If a student completed high school more than two years before applying, they will not need to submit SAT or ACT scores, but may be required to complete placement tests in certain subject areas. Prospective graduate students must show proof of a prerequisite bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Certain graduate programs may also require standardized test scores, letters of recommendation, a personal statement, and a minimum GPA. Students can complete the application process online.
