As the name implies, Southwestern Christian University, or SCU, has a strong religious mission. Its education trains students in Christian fellowship, as well as for work in the professional world. It teaches at two campuses in Oklahoma, in Bethany and Tulsa, as well as online through distance learning. Students can earn bachelor’s or master’s degrees, or continue their education as adults through certificate programs.
Programs are designed to develop students’ leadership skills and biblical literacy through a strong core in Bible and theology courses, regardless of major. Students take classes through the School of Professional Studies, School of Arts and Sciences, or School of Adult and Graduate Studies. Areas of focus include business administration, theology, sports management, education, and language arts.
SCU has been regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools since 1973.
SCU has a rolling admissions policy. First and foremost, given the school’s Christian leanings, interested students must demonstrate regular church attendance and a Christian lifestyle. Additionally, admission is based on an applicant’s academic achievement and personal recommendations. Applications for undergraduate programs must include a signed lifestyle covenant; high school transcripts, which show a GPA of at least 2.5; SAT or ACT scores, with a minimum of 19 on the ACT or 910 on the SAT; and a completed application, which asks for three references. For graduate programs, applicants must submit a completed application, transcripts from each college attended, and three references.
