Robert Morris University is a private, non-profit school located near Pittsburgh. It started as the Pittsburgh School of Accountancy in 1921, and less than 20 years later, its name was changed in honor of Robert Morris, a British-born financier who is known as one of the founding fathers. The school has an enrollment of about 5,000 students, and it participates in NCAA Division 1 athletics.
Along with the more commonly found social science, education, and business undergraduate degrees, Robert Morris University also has programs in nuclear medicine technology, sport management, sport psychology, television/video production, and Web design. It also has programs in pre-law, pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, and pre-veterinary medicine. The university has 21 graduate degrees, including in engineering management, English education, and business administration, and 12 doctoral programs at its main campus in Pennsylvania. There are also opportunities for distance learners, with nine undergraduate degrees, including in business, economics, and psychology, and 11 master’s programs, including a Master of Business Administration.
Robert Morris University has held accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education since 1968. Its bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing have also been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, and the undergraduate and graduate education programs have been accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council since 2008.
First-time freshmen must have a minimum of a 3.0 high school grade point average (GPA), as well as a combined SAT score of 1000, or a composite ACT score of 22. To apply, the student needs to submit transcripts, standardized test scores, and complete the application, which can be done online. Meanwhile, transfer students need to have a minimum 2.0 GPA, although some programs require a higher GPA for admission. If the transfer student has fewer than 30 college credits, they need to send in high school and college transcripts.
For prospective graduate students, the requirements vary by program. For example, the Master of Business Administration program requires GPA and a GMAT score, plus two letters of recommendation and a brief goal statement. On the other hand, the Master of Science in Instructional Leadership program requires only two letters of recommendation, a bachelor’s degree, and a resume. The undergraduate and graduate admissions standards apply to the online program.
