Pima Medical Institute began in 1972, offering a nursing assistant program in Tuscan, Ariz. The program became popular quickly, and before long, Pima added more training programs for medical professionals. Today, there are 13 campus-based medical programs located in seven states. In 2006, Pima expanded beyond traditional education by opening an online institute. The online programs provide medical career education for students who work and have other daily obligations. Pima offers associate, bachelor’s, and certificate programs for its students. The institute’s mission is to provide high quality medical education for students entering medical careers.
The programs provided by Pima Medical Institute are designed to give students the individualized attention necessary for cultivating them into confident and competent workers. Pima offers associate degrees in subjects like dental hygiene, nursing, mortuary science, radiography, and respiratory therapy. Certificates can be earned from programs such as dental assisting, massage therapy, medical assisting, and phlebotomy. The online programs offered by Pima include bachelor’s degrees in nursing and respiratory therapy, and associate degrees in health care administration. A full list of programs can be found on Pima’s website.
Pima Medical Institute is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools. The institute also has program-specific accreditations, a list of which can be found on its website.
To be admitted into Pima Medical Institute, you must go through a process that involves filling out and submitting an application, meeting certain requirements, and meeting personally with a medical career specialist who can answer questions and offer guidance. Applicants must have a diploma or GED certificate and must submit transcripts to the admissions office. All prospective students are required to take and pass an entrance exam, though this is waived if the applicant has already completed an associate degree. Degree and certificate students will be interviewed prior to admittance in the institute. Standardized test scores are not required, but students are welcome to send them in with their application. Late enrollments are accepted contingent upon approval by the campus director.
