Nova Southern University in Fort Lauderdale-Davie, Fla. was founded in 1964 as the Nova University of Advanced Technology, a graduate institution in the physical and social sciences. NSU is the seventh largest not-for-profit and independent university in the nation. The university serves 28,000 students with programs throughout Florida, 23 other states, and selected international sites.
Nova Southeastern University offers nearly 100 undergraduate programs, including anthropology, applied statistics, bioinformatics, business administration, film studies, finance, health science, marine biology, and speech-language pathology. Graduate programs are offered in 16 areas of study: arts and sciences, business, psychological studies, computer and information sciences, criminal justice, dental medicine, education, health care sciences, humanities and social sciences, human services, law, medical sciences, oceanography, optometry, osteopathic medicine, and pharmacy. Undergraduate students may apply to an undergraduate and a graduate or professional school simultaneously through NSU’s Dual Admission program. Dual admission opportunities are available in law, dispute resolution, psychology, marine sciences, osteopathic medicine, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant, dental medicine, or speech-language pathology. NSU also has six undergraduate certificate and 10 graduate certificate programs.
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools has accredited the Nova Southeastern University since January 1971. The Nova Southeastern University has also been accredited by specific accreditation agencies including the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education since June 1987, the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy since July 2002, the American Bar Association since January 1975, the American Optometric Association since April 1993, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association since May 2003, and the Council on Education for Public Health since June 2000.
Applications to Nova Southeastern University are considered on a rolling deadline. Nova Southeastern requires a completed application with a $50 application fee, official secondary school transcripts with courses, grades and graduation date, and results from either the SAT or ACT if applying as a Professional or Liberal Studies student. Graduate applicant requirements vary between graduate departments, but usually require a completed application with a $50 application fee, a bachelor’s degree with a grade point average of at least 3.0, standardized graduate test scores, three letters of recommendation, a resume, and a statement of purpose.
