Founded in 1971, National University has accomplished much in its short history. With 22,000 full-time equivalent students, it has become the12th largest private, nonprofit institution of higher education in the country and the second-largest in the state of California. Not only is its alumni more than 125,000 students strong, but it is also diverse, as NU is first in the country in awarding master’s degrees to Hispanics and Asians and first in California for awarding master’s degrees to Hispanics and African Americans. National University has 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs, 70 of which are available online through schools dedicated to business and management, education, health and human services, letters and sciences, and engineering, technology and media. National University also offers more than 1,200 online courses, including online personal enrichment courses, CSET preparation courses, and teacher development courses. NU is regionally accredited to Western Association of Schools and Colleges, Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities. This institution also has program accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
National University has an open admissions policy and applications for admission are accepted year round. For undergraduate admissions, National University strongly considers applicants’ academic records, educational objectives, test scores, interviews, motivation, and professional experience. Those applying for undergraduate programs must complete an application, enrollment agreement, and take the ACCUPLACER mathematics and English evaluation. Applicants who have fewer than 90 quarter units of college credit must have graduated from high school or have their GED. Transfer applicants from regionally accredited colleges and universities must have a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.
Students interested in graduate admissions must have earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university in which they had a minimum cumulative 2.75 GPA. Those who do not meet the GPA requirement may be admitted upon achieving a satisfactory score on exams, such as the GRE, GMAT, or Miller Analogies Test. In addition, applicants must submit a completed application, enrollment agreement, and documentation of prior education. Depending on an applicant’s choice of study, additional admission requirements may have to be met.
