LeTourneau University (LETU) is an evangelical Christian university that was first founded in 1946 as LeTourneau Technical Institute. With its main campus in Longview, Texas, the university also has branches in Austin, Bedford, Dallas, Houston, Athens, Harlingen, and Tyler. It offers associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degree programs through six schools: the School of Arts and Sciences; the School of Aeronautical Science; the School of Business; the School of Education and Kinesiology; the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology; and the School of Graduate and Professional Studies. Online classes are offered through the School of Graduate and Professional Studies. Generally, these students are working adults who attend online classes or evening and weekend classes at LETU’s educational centers. LETU’s ranking in U.S. News & World Report’s 2012 edition of “Best Colleges” is 39th among regional universities in the West.
LeTourneau offers associate and bachelor’s degree programs in fields such as aviation, criminal justice, and engineering. It also offers master’s degree programs in business and education. Their online offerings are comparable to campus courses, with the main differences being the mode of delivery and the pace of instruction. Students who enroll in online programs have access to an online style guide and tutorials to facilitate the online learning process. The Honors College at LeTourneau is geared toward those students who desire a more rigorous curriculum. Within this program, students are required to complete at least 16 honors course credits. They also participate in community service and campus activities, ensuring a well-rounded experience.
LeTourneau University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, and has been since 1970. Its flight program is certified by the Federal Aviation Administration, and its bachelor’s degree programs in engineering and engineering technology are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission and the Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET.
Students applying to the brick-and-mortar campus must submit ACT or SAT test scores by August 1. However, LETU accepts applications on a rolling basis, which means that there is no specific deadline. Students applying for online classes within the School of Graduate and Professional Studies must fill out an online application form. The university has partnered with San Jacinto College and Lee College to allow their students to easily transfer credits.
