Founded in 1933, the Lancaster Bible College is a private, coeducational Bible college and graduate school located in Lancaster, Pa. In 1981, the Pennsylvania Department of Education gave the school approval to offer their Bachelor of Science in Bible degree, and in 1994, the school was approved to award Master of Arts and Master of Education degrees. The school currently offers 14 graduate degree programs, two bachelor’s degrees programs, one associate degree program, and two one-year certificates. Lancaster Bible College is classified by The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a bible college with a high undergraduate enrollment profile.
While Lancaster Bible College offers a number of undergraduate degrees in biblical studies, its online degrees are only offered at the graduate level. Those seeking post graduate certificates can choose from seven different programs, including adult ministries, bible, leadership studies, and more. These graduate certificates are aimed at helping those already working in church leadership or Christian education positions. Lancaster also offers 10 different Master of Arts programs in ministry and counseling disciplines, and three different Master of Education programs. For those looking to earn the highest level degree to use in Christian ministry, education, or counseling, Lancaster offers a Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership that is primarily online as well.
Lancaster Bible College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) and the Association for Biblical Higher Education Commission on Accreditation (ABHE). Graduates of Lancaster’s elementary education, health and physical education, music education, and graduate school master’s programs in education receive state certification from the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) has certified that Lancaster’s Master of Arts programs fulfill the required content areas for taking the National Counselors Examination (NCE).
Prospective students seeking an online graduate certificate must possess a strong Christian faith, a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in biblical studies, or have completed a core curriculum of biblical foundations courses. In addition, applicants need a transcript of their undergraduate studies, a grade point average of 2.75 or higher, an autobiographical statement, two letters of recommendation, a completed application form and fee, and must complete an interview with a program director.
Those interested in a master’s degree must meet the same requirements as those pursuing a graduate certificate, with the exception of a higher GPA requirement, a valid teaching certificate, and an additional reference form depending on which Master of Education program you choose. Those applying for a Master’s of Arts program must meet the same requirements as graduate certificate applicants.
Admission requirements for those interested in Lancaster’s leadership doctorate must submit a personal testimony of their Christian faith, be engaged in a teaching ministry or non-profit leadership role, have earned an accredited master’s degree with at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, and have taken either the MAT or GRE.
