Hodges University Online

Hodges University was founded in 1990 under the name International College and took on its current name after a sizeable donation from benefactors Earl and Thelma Hodges. Today, the university has campuses in Naples and Ft. Myers, Fla. To better serve its busy student body, Hodges University offers distance education as well as on-campus learning. The university has an enrollment of about 2,900 students, with about 450 students enrolled online. The university is geared toward adult learners, with the average student age being 33 years old. Even though the university is newer to the higher education scene than other institutions, it has already conferred more than 7,700 degrees. Hodges offers career-focused curriculum geared toward preparing individuals for job attainment and job advancement.

Programs Offered

Hodges University offers 22 online degree programs, including associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degree programs. Online bachelor’s programs are available in applied psychology, business administration, criminal justice, health administration, information systems management, interdisciplinary studies, legal studies, and management. Online master’s programs include an MBA, as well as programs in professional studies, public administration, information systems management, criminal justice, legal studies, and management. Students pursuing a Master of Public Administration can choose either a government track or nonprofit track and benefit from a program led by teacher-practitioners who draw from their own professional experience as well as their academic background. Online associate degree programs are available in paralegal studies, health information management, business administration, criminal justice, health administration, interdisciplinary studies, and management.

Accreditation

Hodges University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges. The university has maintained this accreditation since 1998.

Admissions

Prospective students should contact the university and request more information on admissions requirements. In general, those applying to distance education programs will need to possess a high school diploma or GED certificate, complete an admission exam if necessary, submit a writing sample, discuss payment options with a financial aid adviser, and complete a distance education program of study eligibility form. After enrolling, students complete an online orientation for new students. In general, those applying to graduate programs must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and meet all other requirements for their individual program.
