ECPI University is a private school that has campuses in Virginia, North and South Carolina, and offers classes online for students living anywhere in the country to take. The university was founded in 1966, and it was ranked as the second highest associate degree producer for a four-year institution by Community College Week’s Top 100 list of 2011. Courses at the university are designed to foster the skills employers are looking for in new hires, and their goal is for graduates to have the ability to succeed.
The university provides undergraduate degrees in business, criminal justice, technology, health science, and the culinary arts online and at its various locations in Virginia, as well as North and South Carolina. The School of Business and Criminal Justice has an associate and bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, as well as bachelor’s in accounting, homeland security, IT management, business administration, and food service management. Meanwhile, the School of Health Science features a more robust selection of associate degrees. It has physical therapy, massage therapy, sonography, radiography, surgical technology, and more, as well as bachelor’s degrees in healthcare administration and nursing. There is only one graduate degree available, which is a Master of Science in Information Systems. Finally, the associate in culinary arts is available through the school’s Culinary Institute of Virginia.
A considerable number of these degrees are available online, with the exception of the health sciences. That includes the master’s degree, as well as bachelor’s programs in database programming, electronics engineering, accounting and the other business and criminal justice degrees.
ECPI University has held accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, which is recognized by U.S. Department of Education as an accrediting agency, since 1998. The university’s nursing baccalaureate program has also been accredited by the National League for Nursing since 2009. It also holds programmatic accreditation from the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools, Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology, and the Commission on Physical Therapy Education.
The minimum requirement for all undergraduate degrees is a high school diploma and a passing score on an admissions test, while the bachelor’s degree in nursing program requires a student to have graduated with an associate degree in nursing with at least a 2.5 grade point average (GPA). If an applicant’s GPA is under 2.5, they may still be admitted on a provisional status. All applicants to the nursing program also need to have a license to practice registered professional nursing in their state. Meanwhile, the associate degree in massage therapy requires a background check, and the culinary associate degree requires applicants to have the ability to work under stress, as well as physical dexterity.
An applicant to the Master of Science in Information Systems must have a Bachelor of Science in computer science, information systems, or a related field, plus a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. They must also have a minimum GMAT score of 450, or a GRE score of 1,000. The potential student must also submit two letters of recommendation from academic or professional references, participate in a personal interview with an admissions advisor, and show they have work experience.
