CUNY School of Professional Studies

CUNY School of Professional Studies was purposed to provide educational programs for working professionals, employers, and organizations. Established in 2003, this school was CUNY’s first to offer fully online degree programs and strives to serve marketplace demands through academic programs that support career advancement. In addition to degree programs, the CUNY School of Professional Studies also designs customized education and training programs for employers and organizations.

Programs Offered

CUNY School of Professional Studies offers certificate programs, graduate degrees, and online degrees. Graduate degree programs include Master of Arts degrees in applied theatre, disability studies, labor studies, and urban studies and Master of Science degrees in information systems and business management and leadership. More than 25 undergraduate and advanced certificates can be earned in areas such as labor relations, management, business communication, public administration, education, adult learning, and health care policy and administration. Eight online degrees can be earned through this school, including six bachelor’s and two master’s degrees in areas like information systems, business, communication and culture, sociology, psychology, disability studies, health information management, and business management and leadership.

Accreditation

As a part of CUNY’s Graduate School and University Center, the CUNY School of Professional Studies is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Associations of Colleges and Schools. Specialized accreditation includes American Psychological Association, Committee on Accreditation and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.

Admissions

CUNY’s School of Professional Studies has semester-based admissions. Those applying to online baccalaureate programs must have earned a minimum of 24 transferable credits from a college or university in which they maintained at least a 2.5 GPA and submit a Supplemental Application Form. Those applying to online graduate programs must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in which they earned a minimum 3.0 GPA. Along with an online application, official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities must be submitted. Students who desire to enroll in an advanced certificate program also must have obtained a bachelor’s degree.
