Law school is time-consuming and expensive, and often causes students to put their family and career obligations on hold to earn a degree. A subsidiary of Kaplan University, Concord’s online law school was established in 1998 with the mission of providing students the opportunity to earn a juris doctor, executive juris doctor, or small business practice LLM degree without interfering with their daily obligations. Though the curriculum is conducted entirely online, the program offers many of the same classes as traditional law degrees. It boasts an expert faculty and an affordable tuition.
Concord Law School offers three online programs. The juris doctor program is designed to be completed on a part-time basis in four years. It adheres to the requirements set in place by the State Bar of California, and offers course work for aspiring lawyers. The executive juris doctor program is geared towards students whose careers will benefit from law education. This degree is an alternative to the juris doctor degree program, and offers professionals the opportunity to take course work tailored toward advancing their careers. Finally, the small business practice LLM degree is designed for in-practice attorneys that want specialized expertise in offering legal services to small businesses. Classes include leasing commercial real estate, employee management, protecting and selling intellectual property, and taxation of small businesses.
Concord encourages prospective students to contact an admissions representative prior to enrolling. Candidates are required to take an admissions test offered by Concord. They must submit official transcripts from their undergraduate (and, if applicable, graduate) programs. The Concord admissions office will then review the application materials and contact students to discuss the program specifics. From there, the admissions officers will make a decision as to whether the students will be admitted into the law programs. For the LLM degree, students can apply directly online. The LLM degree requires that prospective students are already practicing law professionals.
