Chamberlain College of Nursing

The Chamberlain College of Nursing was founded in 1889 as a nursing diploma school. Originally named the Deaconness College of Nursing, it has since grown from a diploma school to a college with locations in Illinois, Virginia, Texas, Ohio, Florida, Missouri, and Arizona. When it was founded, the university was a continuation of the deaconess tradition of nursing, which began in Europe in the 19th century. The deaconess tradition counted Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing, as one of its students. Devry Inc. bought the university in 2005, and the name was changed to “Chamberlain,” which means “chief steward.”

Programs Offered

The Chamberlain College of Nursing offers associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees in nursing. The college offers an on-site and online associate degree in nursing program that features interactive chat sessions with students and faculty, virtual labs for laboratory-based general education courses, and weekly assignments and regular testing. But the clinical portions of the curriculum are only available in the Columbus, Ohio location.

Students seeking a bachelor’s of science in nursing can obtain it in an accelerated three-year program, which is available at the college’s locations in Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Texas, Missouri, Ohio, and Virginia. Finally, master’s degrees in three disciplines are available through an online program. An executive track is available for those wanting to work in management, the educator program prepares nurses to teach, and the informatics track prepares the student for a career in data management.

The Chamberlain College of Nursing has been accredited by The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) since 2007, and it is also a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
