Boise State University Online

Boise State University was originally founded in 1932 as Boise Junior College. The University’s first distance-delivered program was developed in 1989. Since then, Boise Online has grown and now offers several undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates. There are currently more than 9,000 students taking distance education courses at Boise State from throughout the U.S. and from several countries around the world. The U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges” report ranked Boise State as one of the top up-and-coming schools in 2010 and 2011.

Programs Offered

Boise State University Online offers several individual online courses, as well as many full degree and certificate programs that can be completed entirely online. They have bachelor’s degree programs in respiratory care and nursing, master’s degree programs in nursing, instructional and performance technology, and educational technology, graduate certificate programs in educational technology and instructional and performance technology, and doctor of education degree programs in educational technology and curriculum and technology. For students new to online education, Boise offers a free course entitled Learn to Learn Online that will allow students to become familiar with the online classroom and learning experience.

Accreditation

Boise State University gained accreditation in 1941 from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. In addition to this, the education program was accredited in 1974 by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, and the nursing program was accredited at the baccalaureate level in 1980 and the master’s level in 2011 by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Committee.

Admissions

Boise State University Online has an application fee and has application deadlines for each semester. The summer session and fall semester deadline is May 15, and the spring semester deadline is November 15. Applicants must create a BroncoWeb account and submit their high school transcripts and SAT or ACT scores by the deadline for the semester they are applying for. Additional requirement details that are specifically for the program being applied for will be explained through BroncoWeb, once the applicant’s account is set up.
