Ball State University Online

Built in Muncie, Ind. in 1899 as a private teacher training school that was later purchased by Frank C. Ball and his brothers, Ball State University was officially founded in 1918. As technology advanced and the popularity of online education grew, Ball State University Online was developed and has since grown into a highly respected online college. Several of Ball State University’s online degree and certificate programs are have gained national recognition. U.S. News & World Reports gave a top 20 ranking to four of Ball State’s online programs in their “2012 Top Online Education Program Rankings” report.

Programs Offered.

Ball State University Online offers numerous degree and certificate programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The subject areas for these programs include nursing, business administration, radiation therapy, elementary education, educational psychology, urban design, and many more. The school’s undergraduate certificate in emerging media journalism is in partnership with The New York Times. They also offer a graduate-level specialist degree in education in school superintendency, a program that is only offered by a few online colleges.

Accreditation.

Ball State University gained institutional accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, The Higher Learning Commission in 1925, and has maintained it ever since. Several of the university’s individual programs have also been granted specialized accreditation from nationally recognized accrediting agencies, such as their nursing, dietetics, art and design, and teacher education programs.

Admissions.

Ball State Online undergraduate applicants need to fill out the online undergraduate application, pay the non-refundable application fee, and send their high school transcripts or GED scores and any post-high school education information to the Online and Distance Education Admissions office. Graduate applicants must fill out the online graduate application, pay the fee, send in their transcripts, and also meet the specific criteria for the graduate program they are pursuing, such as grade point average, Graduate Record Examination scores, and recommendations.
