Azusa Pacific University Online

Azusa Pacific University (APU) is an evangelical Christian University, originally established in 1899 as The Training School for Christian Workers. The brick-and-mortar campuses offer three undergraduate majors, 37 master’s degrees, 21 credentials, seven doctoral programs, and five certificates. Located in Azusa, Calif., the university ranks 170 among national universities in the 2012 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges” guide. ASU’s online counterpart, Azusa Pacific Online University (APOU), was launched in September 2010, with its first session held in June 2011. More than 9,200 students attend the university, including those who are enrolled online.

Programs Offered

Azusa Pacific Online University offers a Pre-Nursing Health Science Certificate, associate degrees, and bachelor’s degrees. All students must take four core classes: Christian Life, Faith, and Ministry; Momentum: Success in the University; Basic Software Tools; and Expository Writing. Associate degrees are offered in four areas, including management and health sciences. Bachelor’s degrees are offered in two areas: management and applied psychology. All of APOU’s degree programs emphasize a liberal arts core that consists of classes in history, the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and mathematics.

Accreditation

APU is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. It has been accredited by this agency since 1961. In addition, it has received specialized accreditation for specific programs from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools, and others.

Admissions

Applicants to Azusa Pacific Online University must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma. To apply, students must complete an online application and submit high school and college transcripts, if applicable. Transfer students can apply any previous credits they have earned toward APOU’s liberal arts core and elective requirements. APOU offers six different enrollment dates during each calendar year.
