Ashford University combines the traditional brick-and-mortar campus with the advantages of online learning. Headquartered in San Diego, California, it has a total enrollment size of 58,104, which includes more than 50,895 undergraduates. While the majority of its students are enrolled in online courses, the number of students on campus has increased in recent years. Founded in 1918 as Mount St. Clare College, it served as a junior college for women. Now, the coeducational, proprietary institution offers associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees through more than 50 on-campus and online programs.
Degrees at Ashford University are offered within four colleges: the Forbes School of Business™, the College of Education, the College of Health, Human Services, and Science, and the College of Liberal Arts. Students can select degrees in areas such as business administration, environmental studies, and early childhood education. Ashford University also offers dozens of options for students who wish to minor in another field of study, related or unrelated to their major. Minors require 18 credits, or six courses, that are distinct from their major degree program. Students who enroll in online classes can also opt to earn credits that will apply toward both their bachelor’s degree and their master’s degree with Smart Track. On the other hand, students who attend the physical campus can add specializations, which require 12 semester credit hours each. Accelerated evening classes are also available.
Ashford University accepts applications on a rolling basis, meaning that there is no specific deadline for the application. However, scores for either the SAT or ACT tests are due by August 1. When filling out the application, students must select a degree program and major, but they can change this at a later date if their interests evolve. Students can also transfer up to 90 credits of previous course work at another university toward their bachelor’s degrees.
