Launched in 2000, the Art Institute of Pittsburgh â€“ Online Division follows the academic and creative tradition of its brick-and-mortar campuses. The Art Institute, founded in 1921, has an extensive system of schools, with more than 45 campus locations nationwide. They offer everything from diplomas to bachelor’s degree programs in fields related to fashion, design, and media. Undergraduate enrollment at the school, where students can select from 27 academic programs, stands at almost 15,000 students total. International students are also eligible to apply.
The Art Institute of Pittsburgh â€“ Online Division offers diploma, certificate, associate, and bachelor’s degree programs. The three diploma programs in digital design, residential planning, and web design require 36 to 45 hours and usually consist of 12 courses. The Art Institute of Pittsburgh offers certificates in 10 different areas, including 3D animation and event management. Four associate degrees are offered in graphic design; kitchen and bath design; photography; and web design and interactive media. Lastly, students seeking bachelor’s degrees can major in advertising, culinary management, interior design, and seven other areas; each requires 180 hours of study.
Every student who enrolls at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh â€” Online Division must participate in an online student orientation prior to the start date of the student’s first course. The online orientation prepares students to learn in an online classroom environment. Students must also meet software and hardware requirements that vary from program to program. However, the required software can be purchased at discounted rates for students.
To be eligible to apply to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh â€“ Online Division, prospective students must have earned at least a high school diploma or a GED certificate, and high school graduates must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 1.5. on a 4.0 scale. The Art Institute will assist students by contacting their respective high schools to request transcripts. Eligible students should fill out an online application. The school has a 75% acceptance rate. When students enroll in programs, they may be required to pass the Art Institute of Pittsburgh’s Computer Literacy Testout Exam. Those who do not pass the exam will be required to enroll in a computer literacy class or prove that they have taken the course within the past five years.
