American Sentinel University

Formed in 2006 by combining three other institutions, this school isn’t as old as it is innovative. With a mission to provide degree programs that would allow students to succeed in high-demand industries, American Sentinel gives people everywhere the opportunity to earn a degree in a flexible environment through online learning. Shortly after forming, this institution was accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council, and not long after, it was the only nationally accredited school asked to be a participant observer in the Higher Learning Commission’s Transparency by Design program.

Programs Offered

American Sentinel offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in the areas of technology, business, and health care. Students have their choice of Associate of Science, Bachelor of Science, or Master of Science degrees, which can be taken online or through distance learning. Registered nurses looking to advance their career and earn a nursing degree have ample opportunities at American Sentinel through the RN to BSN, RN to MSN, and M.S. nursing program that offers five specializations for students to focus their studies on. Along with health care programs, this school is a great place for the business-minded with a business administration degree with seven specializations, two MBA programs, and a M.S. in Business Intelligence. In addition, there are industry certification programs for Cisco, Comp TIA, Microsoft, and PMP.

Accreditation

American Sentinel has institutional accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, Accrediting Commission. In addition, its nursing education programs at the baccalaureate and graduate degree levels hold specialized accreditations from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

Admissions

At American Sentinel, there is an open admission policy and terms begin once a month. Applicants applying to an associate or bachelor’s degree program must have graduated from high school with at least a 2.0 GPA. Master’s degree program applicants have slightly different admissions requirements. They must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in which they earned a minimum overall GPA of 2.0. A completed application, record of professional accomplishments, and official undergraduate transcripts must be submitted as well. Nursing students applying to RN to BSN, MSN, RN to MSN, or DPN programs must fulfill a minimum GPA requirement, hold an RN license, and have at least two years of professional experience for entry into those programs. In addition to the same documents required for non-nursing applicants, RNs must provide a copy of their active and unencumbered RN license.
