In 1933, the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary established Rivier College. In July of 2012, the institution was awarded university status to reflect the growth of the school and its program selection. Rivier University is currently ranked No. 133 among Regional Universities (North) by U.S. News & World Report in the 2013 edition of Best Colleges. For Best Grad School Rankings, Rivier University ranked No. 390 for its nursing program. The institution currently serves more than 2,200 students and has a freshman retention rate (an indicator of student satisfaction) of 77%. As a means of promoting more individualized attention for students, the school maintains a low student-to-faculty ratio of 15:1.
Along with Rivier University’s expansions and growth came the addition of four accredited, complete, online degree programs made available to students around the world. These programs equal the quality and rigor of the face-to-face programs, but provide a level of flexibility that enables students to continue full-time employment and/or maintain their commitment to family matters. Four programs, two at the bachelor’s level and two at the master’s level, are offered by Rivier University, as well as numerous courses that can be taken as a degree supplement or individually. The four degrees offer intensive study in psychology, nursing, health care administration, and information technology management. Courses and programs are delivered through the online learning platform Blackboard and have no residency requirements unless the student opts to participate in hybrid courses.
Rivier University received accreditation from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges to grant degrees. Specialized accreditation was awarded by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
Undergraduates applying for admission to online programs must meet certain requirements to be considered for admission. This includes completing an application and submitting it with official high school transcripts or GED (if applicable), recommendation letters, a personal statement, and certification documents in some cases. If a student transfers more than 12 credits, high school documents are not required; only college credits with a 2.5 minimum grade point average will be accepted by the school. Admission for graduates to the MBA programs offered online by Rivier requires evaluation of the applicant’s transcripts from the accredited institution where they earned a bachelor’s degree. Additionally, a letter of recommendation should be included along with national exam results (the MAT or GRE), and a statement of purpose.
