Capella University is an accredited institution that provides only online degrees to students around the world. Established in 1993, Capella was created in response to the increasing demand for distance education needs. Its founders envisioned a school providing exclusively online education opportunities for busy working adults. Since its inception, the university has expanded enrollment numbers, reaching more than 37,000 students worldwide. Today, Capella University provides in excess of 140 online degrees at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including 17 certificate programs. The diverse student body represents every state in the U.S. and 59 other countries.

Programs Offered

As an accredited online institution, Capella University seeks to provide distance learners with the opportunity to achieve their academic goals regardless of where they live or what their schedule demands. Degrees are offered at the certificate, bachelor’s, master’s, Ed.S., and doctoral levels with minimal residency requirements for specific programs. After logging in to their specific program, students can explore course materials, participate in class discussions, receive and submit weekly assignments, and view feedback and grades from the convenience of their computer — wherever they are. More than 1,500 faculty members are available to offer support and guidance to the students to help them through the degree programs. Capella University also provides a dynamic opportunity for students to interact with each other and the community via online communication.

Accreditation

Capella University is fully accredited to grant degrees by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Additional accreditation was awarded by two other organizations for specific programs.

Admissions

Admission to Capella University is determined primarily on academic background and merit, though other factors such as recommendation or professional work experience are taken into consideration as well. Freshmen are generally required to submit documents for evaluation that designate successful completion of high school (or the international equivalent if applicable) and meet acceptable minimums for high school grade point average (GPA). At the graduate level, requirements may include proof of completion of a specific bachelor’s degree, meeting higher GPA standards, supplying adequate letters of recommendation, and passing graduate level tests (in some cases).
