Northwestern State University of Louisiana is a four-year, public institution in Natchitoches, La. The university was established in 1884 as the Louisiana State Normal School. The school then became the Louisiana Normal College in 1921, Northwestern State College in 1944, and Northwestern State University in 1970. Northwestern State University sets a July 6 application deadline. The deadline for the spring semester is November 2 and April 5 for the summer session. Prospective students are required to submit a final high school transcript, an immunization form, any applicable college transcripts, and, for all males, a selective service card. Students must also send in their official ACT or SAT scores, a social security card copy, and the application form along with a $20 fee. According to U.S. News & World Report, Northwestern State University of Louisiana had an acceptance rate of 82.4% in fall 2011.
