Eastern Kentucky University is a four-year, public institution in Richmond, Ky., that was established in 1906 as the Eastern Kentucky State Normal School. The U.S. News & World Report ranked Eastern Kentucky University 61st in Regional Universities (South) in the 2013 edition of Best Colleges. Eastern Kentucky University is composed of the College of Arts & Sciences, College of Business & Technology, College of Education, College of Health Sciences, and College of Justice & Safety. These colleges offer several majors, including accounting, agriculture, animal studies, biology, chemistry, and communication disorders. Graduate programs are available in educational leadership and policy studies, nursing, English, history, math, communication disorders, library science, school counseling, secondary education, creative writing, and business administration. The university also offers online degree programs in police studies, homeland security, occupational safety, psychology, elementary education, library science, public health nursing, and paralegal studies.
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools has accredited Eastern Kentucky University since 1928.
Eastern Kentucky University requires students to complete an online application or download and mail in an application with a high school transcript and a $30 application fee. Prospective students must also submit ACT or SAT scores. Students must also meet Kentucky’s Pre-College Curriculum requirements. The university sets an August 1 deadline for applications and an August 15 deadline for ACT or SAT scores. According to the U.S. News , the university had an acceptance rate of 66.4% in fall 2011.
