Leeward Community College was established in 1968. It was the first college within the University of Hawaii System to be developed without a connection to a previously established technical school. Leeward Community College has a student population of 7,895, and a student-to-faculty ratio of 25 to 1. The institution’s main campus is located between Pearl City and Waipahu and overlooks Pearl Harbor. The school also operates a campus on the Wai’anae coast.

Programs Offered

Several certificate programs are offered from Leeward Community College including accounting, business, community food security, Philippine studies, travel industry management, and Hawaiian studies. Associate degrees are available, including accounting, business technology, management, culinary arts, digital media, and information and computer science programs. A joint certificate program is also offered between Leeward and UH-West O’ahu. Leeward Community College offers 13 degrees and certificates online. Online associate degree programs include teaching, accounting, and writing. Online certificate programs at Leeward include accounting, administrative support hospitality and legal, management foundations, retail foundations, business essentials, and management essentials.


Leeward Community College has been accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges since 1971.


Applications for Leeward Community College are accepted from Dec. 1 – July 15 for the fall semester. Spring semester applications are accepted from June 1 – Dec. 1, and summer session applications are accepted from Dec. 1 – May 6. Prospective students must submit an online application or download the application and mail it to the admissions office, sign up for a University of Hawaii account, and take the COMPASS placement tests. Students must submit tuberculosis and measles immunization clearances before registering for classes. Students are required to participate in a New Student Orientation session before registration as well.
