Quinnipiac University is a private university with an enrollment of about 8,500 students. It was given its Native American name because of a tribe by the same name that once inhabited the area. Quinnipiac provides its students with associate, bachelor’s, master’s, professional, and doctoral degree options. The university opened its doors in 1929 in New Haven, Conn., and in 2000 gained university status. Today it has three campuses in Connecticut and is ranked No. 13 among regional universities of the north and No. 1 among up-and-coming schools in the north by U.S. News and World Report.

According to U.S. News and World Report, 70% of its undergraduate students are enrolled in the university’s health professions, business, or communications programs. Moreover, Quinnipiac offers online education for which it is also recognized by U.S. News. QU Online offers six online master’s programs as well as two online certificate programs. Programs are asynchronous and some can be completed fully online; others require students to attend an on-campus orientation.
In 1958, Quinnipiac University became accredited by the New England Associate of Schools and Colleges. Its accreditation was renewed for 10 more years in 2009.
Prospective Quinnipiac University undergraduates can apply for early admission if they apply by Nov. 1; however, certain programs, such as Quinnipiac’s nursing program, require applications to be in by Nov. 15. Quinnipiac also offers rolling admissions. High school applicants are expected to submit an official high school transcript, their first semester’s grades, test scores, and an application; transfer students are expected to do the same, except they’re to submit their college transcript instead of a high school transcript. Meanwhile, graduate students generally must submit official college transcripts, standardized test scores, proof of bachelor’s degree completion, a resume, two references, and an application along with an application fee.
