Gateway Community College (GCC) was founded about 40 years ago and today offers about 100 degree and certificate programs. GCC has an annual enrollment of about 14,000 students. It is the 10th largest postsecondary institution and the second largest community college in Connecticut. GCC is comprised of two campuses in Connecticut, one in New Haven and one in North Haven. The community college also happens to be one of the nation’s fastest growing community colleges.
GCC offers both Associate of Science and Associate of Applied Science degree programs. Program disciplines range from mechanical engineering technology to early childhood education. The college is especially known for its computer engineering technology program. GCC also allows its students to engage in distance education through online and hybrid courses. Students access their assignments, class lectures, forum discussions, and syllabi online through GCC’s Blackboard.
In 1981, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges granted GCC accreditation. Today, the community college remains accredited as it was granted a 10-year accreditation renewal in 2006.
New students applying for admittance into GCC must submit several documents. An application and a $20 application fee must be submitted. Additionally, prospective students must submit their immunization records, high school diploma or GED, and SAT/ACT scores. Students may take GCC’s placement exam if they have not taken the SAT or ACT. Additionally, any students who completed college course work at another institution can submit their college transcript with their application. Students will also be required to prove their county of residence along with their application for tuition rate determination.
