Colorado, the 22nd most populous state, is known for its being the home of most of the picturesque Rocky Mountains. Along with the scenery, the state has more than 460 institutions of higher learning, including 28 public, 103 private accredited and religious exempt, 335 private occupational, and three area technical colleges and universities, that serve almost 260,000 students. The state’s public schools include the University of Colorado – Boulder, the University of Colorado – Denver, Colorado State University, and the Colorado School of Mines. U.S. News & World Report placed the University of Colorado – Boulder and the Colorado School of Mines 94th and 75th, respectively, in its national universities ranking.
